Who was H.R. Giger?
H.R. Giger was a Swiss artist famous for his “biomechanical” style. Bodies and machines melted together into one dark, creepy shape. He designed the creature in Alien, and won an Oscar for it in 1980.
Metal and rock fans know his work from album covers. Celtic Frost’s To Mega Therion, Emerson, Lake and Palmer’s Brain Salad Surgery, and Danzig III all use Giger art.
The guitars
Ibanez put Giger’s art right on the body of a few guitar models. The graphics cover the whole top. Black, gray, and silver, full of skulls and tubes. They look like props from Alien. Today they are collector pieces.
Giger died in 2014. His museum in Gruyères, Switzerland, is still open to visitors.
