The world has lost one of its best artists. Frank Frazetta died on May 10, 2010. He was 82. He was one of my favorite artists.
Why Frazetta matters to metal fans
Frazetta painted the Conan paperback covers in the 1960s. Those images changed how fantasy art looked. Muscles, monsters, and lots of motion.
His painting The Death Dealer, from 1973, is a big deal for metal. A dark rider with an axe and glowing eyes. Molly Hatchet put Frazetta art on their album covers, and you can see his influence all over metal album art since then. Look at old Manowar or Conan covers and you see it.
