This clip of Mayhem rehearsing in 1990 will scare off any emo band that sees it.
Why this clip matters
Footage of early Mayhem is rare. This one shows the band with Dead on vocals and Euronymous on guitar, the lineup fans still talk about most. Hellhammer is on drums and Necrobutcher on bass.
This was the era that shaped Norwegian black metal. The sound is raw and cold. No polish at all. Bands around the world copied this style for decades.
That lineup did not last. Dead died in 1991 and Euronymous in 1993. The full story is told in the book Lords of Chaos. Mayhem carried on, and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas came out in 1994.
