The Drapery Falls is one of Opeth’s best songs. The clip we first posted was the band live on their US tour with Nevermore. That one is gone, so here is the official live version from Shepherd’s Bush Empire in London.
About the song
The Drapery Falls is on Blackwater Park, released in 2001. Steven Wilson of Porcupine Tree produced it. That album is where Opeth’s mix of death metal and 70s prog really clicked.
The song runs nearly 11 minutes. It starts soft and sad with Mikael Åkerfeldt’s clean voice. Then the growls and heavy riffs come in. The ending riff is one of the best in modern metal. Fans call it a perfect intro to the band.
